What a special treat, a media tour on the day before the actual festival! Being my first trek to the event, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet some Laneway folks, the media group covering the event and just to get a lay of the land…
They welcomed us warmly at a special area of the check-in desk at the hotel, we were even invited to the welcome party at the pool area. Great opportunity to meet some Laneway folks and many of the artists performing at the festival. Royal Blood were a couple of characters…
The taxi dropped us off in the wrong area, took a short walk through breathtaking gardens, with odd directions to turn left at the big baby, you’ll know it when you see it…
Sarah Thia was a gracious hostess, showing us around the grounds and explaining things well, our first stop was the backstage area…
Haydn Johnston, the production manager, gave the group a quick lowdown of their goals.
Introduced us to some of the key people from the Laneway organisation, here’s Danny Rodgers and Jerome Borazio, couple of the co-founders.
Gave us a tour of the dressing rooms, here’s a couple of fans fawning over Royal Bloods doorway…
They’ve cleverly posted all the recent write-ups for the artists to check out…
They had a selection of vendors sharing samples of the following days food fare. And check out the drones in test flights…
They first showed us the Cloud stage then off to the main stage, what a sight!
Didn’t sleep well the night before, a bit of excited nervousness, I suppose….
My new associates at Rappler, are also my new friends, couldn’t have asked for better companionship.
This festival was not only one of the most organised events I’ve ever attended but also the most welcoming, like old friends coming home.
I’m keeping everything I got crossed, in hopes of attending again next year! Thanks Margi, Belle and PJ!
