Tycho, ambient music at it’s finest…

Tycho who; you may be asking yourself, so right off the bat, let’s get the Wikipedia stuff out of the way…

“Scott Hansen, professionally known as Tycho, is an American ambient music artist and producer from San Francisco, California, who is known as ISO50 for his photographic and design works.”

The rest of the band consists of Zac Brown on guitar, Joe Davancens on bass, synth and keys and Rory O’Connor on drums.

No vocals for the evening, which was nice for a change but can be challenging photographically. An interesting lighting effect, created a screen pattern on the performers, as you can see in many of the images.

Pleasantly surprised, they performed well and kept the crowd interested, I had also only heard of them in passing, during some recent research on Little Dragon, who performed at recent Laneway event, Tycho does a remix of one of their tracks.

As you might expect, not a huge crowd for the event held at the new theatre at Solaria, posh digs, very nice, maybe 500 attending, if that.

What the crowd lacked in numbers, they certainly made up for it in enthusiasm. Every person in the house was a genuine fan, you could see it in their faces and feel it in their movements, as they swayed to the melodic sound.

And Scott acknowledged that fact and sincerely addressed the crowd thanking them for their support. It was their last stop on the tour, and couldn’t ask for a better way to wrap it up.

Excited for their first visit to the Philippines, Scott explained to the crowd, that he has been looking forward to this, his grandfather had lived on Corregidor island for four years.

Fantastic visual effects, interesting graphics, really a show within itself, the large video screen images and effects matched perfectly with the music.

Beautiful evening of music for the lucky ones who attended, calming and peaceful, tough to describe but I like how Kristipher Lenz over at Consequence of Sound puts it…”the equivalent of exploring a new art museum.”

Big thanks going out to the folks at Random Minds Productions, refreshing to experience a non-mainstream international artist performing in Manila…
