Boyzlife. A supergroup from a teenage dream.

Boyzlife

What do you get when you combine members from Irish boy bands of the 90’s, Boyzone and Westlife? A supergroup called Boyzlife featuring Westlife member, Brian McFadden, and Boyzone singer Keith Duffy. Building their careers from within two different groups, what at first glance would appear the perfect storm to create rivals did not transpire in such a fashion. So perhaps a bit of a surprise to see such a supergroup formed.

I was impressed with their on-stage presence, providing a sense of comfort and confidence yet without coming off as overly cocky. Their voices blended seamlessly as the commanded the stage like consummate pros as they worked for the crowd with skill and attentiveness.

The chemistry between them was evident, it was readily apparent that they were friends performing together. You’d never guess they grew up performing in different bands, it appeared they have been on stage together for years, yet the duo has only been formed in 2016. Consequently, coming from the similar backgrounds and experiences they have bonded as a duo with impressive vocals and sonic properties that harmonized like a dream.

The setlist flowed smoothly with hits from both of their respective groups along with many familiar cover songs. They often interacted with the fans in the front rows and came down from the stage and entered the crowd on more than one occasion. A dream come true for many lucky fans. On paper, the concert looks like a sellout but it was a less than the capacity crowd and what the audience lacked in numbers, they certainly made up for in enthusiasm.

There was no live band, they sang along to a prerecorded backtrack, which was okay but I certainly prefer a group of players. Addressing the crowd throughout the concert, almost intuitively maintaining the energy level. Brian also announced the Boyzone’s 25th-anniversary concert tour in the works for 2018, hoping for a visit to the Philippines, we’ll have to hang on for the further details.
